- Description
Hull Anodes (Zinc & Aluminium – Plate & Strap Types) are robust sacrificial anodes designed to protect boat hulls, offshore structures, and underwater metal components from galvanic corrosion. Available in both zinc and aluminum alloys, these anodes come in plate (bolt-on) and strap (weld-on) configurations to suit different installation requirements.
They are essential components in cathodic protection systems, where the anode corrodes instead of the protected metal, preventing structural damage and extending vessel life.
Types of Hull Anodes
1. Plate Anodes (Bolt-On / Plain Type)
- Flat rectangular or oval shape
- Installed using bolts or studs
- Ideal for fiberglass, aluminum, and steel hulls
- Provides uniform corrosion protection across large surfaces
2. Strap Anodes (Weld-On Types)
- Equipped with steel or aluminum straps
- Designed for weld-on installation
- Ensures strong electrical bonding and secure attachment
- Can be modified with bolt holes if required
✔ Strap designs often feature continuous metal strips extending from the anode for welding or fastening
Material Options
| Material | Best Application | Key Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| Zinc (ZN) | Saltwater | Stable, traditional protection |
| Aluminium (AL) | Salt & Brackish | Longer life, lighter, more efficient |
✔ Aluminum anodes offer higher capacity and lighter weight compared to zinc
